We're losing her. ...making the tough decision. | Vlog 797
After days of watching mama go downhill, I finally decided to put her out of her misery.
Never an easy choice.
Our Golden Girl glow up continues with a pedicure, but Marge proves to be a challenge.

The last part of this week is all about the sheep. Carissa noticed a ewe that was down during feeding, which is usually bad news. It was. This mama is really sick with what appears to be mastitis. It's also shearing day on Friday, so we need to bring the Golden Girls home for their annual glow up, but will Marge prove to be too much for us all? #sheep #health #farming THANKS SO MUCH FOR WATCHIN...

After a productive Saturday of completing hay, and planting the last field of soybeans... Mark found himself in the ER with what looks like a torn tendon in his ankle. We're back in the sheep barn now, and first on. the management list is weaning lambs. It's a loud one, folks. #sheep #weaning #farming THANKS SO MUCH FOR WATCHING!!! Ready or not, this hay needs DONE. ...but will we beat the RAIN?
Переглядів 97 тис.День тому
Its that time of year again... we are getting ready for our most stressful (and smallest) crop we grow. HAY. It took us a few days to prepare, as we cut, waited for it to dry down a bit, then merged two rows into one. Ethan was on tap for the chopping of the hay, and Devon was here to bag it for storing. Meanwhile, my great idea of letting the nanny run out milk powder to wean the last of the b...

A super random few days! Still trying to outrun our less than ideal weather forecast in hopes of getting our soybeans planted, and we were able to demo a HUGE Fendt Momentum planter which helped us get way more beans in the ground! I had a trip booked with my sisters and mom to treat her to a late mothers day, early birthday gift... and we landed in Savannah!! Back to barn in time to vaccinate ...

To be honest, I really didn't have a good feeling about this scan... happy to say, I was wrong and our boys and girlies did way better than I had hoped! Rex and I also had a good conversation about joint ill in the bottle lambs, and fathomed a few things. We graduated our older bottle lambs and moved them into the market lamb barn. And finally, we are going hard trying to get soybeans planted! ...

Although the weather has been AMAZING this long holiday weekend, I'm worried Mark is feeling the stress of not having his ground the way he hoped prior to planting. But, we have moved into soybeans and hope these vigorous little seeds do their thing. In the barn, I've been still checking in on our little lamb that looks to be potentially struggling with White Muscle Disease (selenium deficiency...

Well, finally Mother nature has done her best to give us a good day to finish our 2024 corn planting. But as we wait, Mark's been hunting down broken field drainage tiles which really show up on these wet years. so, more stuff to fix on the days we can't plant it would appear. In the sheep barn, we have a 5-6 week old lamb who is struggling to stand. At first I thought maybe it lined up with Po...

Sandi, I have been a long time watcher for several years. I don’t believe I’ve ever seen or heard you speak about mastitis before or if so, very rarely. But it seems like this is the 4th or 5th ewe in the last group or 2 (forgive me if this isn’t right because I did recently get behind and binge watch!). Is this something you just haven’t spoken much about before or has there been a spike in mastitis in your groups? Please do a little research and talk to Rex about low potassium and if it’s possible to treat with potassium. I’ve also heard some farmers say they add Apple Cider Vinegar to a ewes water that has come down with mastitis. I’m also not sure what antibiotic you’re treating with, but possibly ask Rex about a faster acting one for these cases? It seems like even though you’re catching early, the treatment just isn’t working fast enough to keep them up. I know how difficult it is to make these decisions. Thank you for sharing your life with us 🥰

Love watching this. Just saw another UA-camr who only has one 25 acre field so he has the Amish in his area mowing and bale his hay (yes Amish using tractors). They had 6 tractors mowing 25 acres. Done in a snap. The equipment cost needed to mow that one field will pay the Amish for many years.

Sandi, you and your ewe fought a good fight. I know it hurts. She was ready to go. Having time to say: Goodbye was beautiful. I have a question for you...is preg-tox contagious? Wont the other ewes catch it if they lay and eat where the other ewe passed?

Reminds me of the quintuplets we had last year from a Boer Lamancha cross nanny of mine. The first was this miniscule doe-kid and the next 4 boys were all within a pound of each other, looking like two sets of medium twins. Eenie, Meenie, Miney, Tiny and Fred. (Tiny was the girl and we kept her to replace the nanny because she got super sick after that and the kids all became fulltime bottle babies.)
